Sell or Pawn? Choosing What’s Right for You

Most customers come in unsure whether they want to sell their item outright or pawn it for a short-term loan. Here is the difference:

Selling

You hand over your item and walk out paid. The transaction is final. You typically receive a higher amount than you would on a pawn loan, since we are buying the item outright. This is the right choice if you no longer want the item, or if you need maximum value today.

Pawning

You use your item as collateral for a short-term loan. We hold the item securely, and you have a minimum of four months to repay the loan plus interest/fees and recover your item. How Selling Works at Imperial

Selling to us is straightforward and respectful of your time.

Step One: Bring Your Item

Walk in during business hours. No appointment needed. Bring the item, any original boxes or paperwork, and a valid government-issued photo ID. ID is required by California law for all pawn shop transactions.

Step Two: Free Evaluation

Our trained staff will examine your item, test it where applicable, and research current market value. We use professional tools including XRF analyzers for precious metals, jeweler’s loupes, diamond testers, and authentication services like Entrupy for luxury handbags. Evaluations are always free, with no obligation to sell.

Step Three: Get Paid

If you accept our offer, we handle the paperwork and pay you. Most transactions are completed on the spot. For higher-value items, payment method may vary, and we will go over the details with you in person.

Original receipts, certificates of authenticity, appraisals, manuals, and original boxes all add value. GIA certificates for diamonds, PSA grading for cards, and original watch papers can meaningfully increase what we can pay.

Items in good condition with all parts and accessories sell for more. Electronics should power on and function. Watches should run. Jewelry does not need to be polished, but should be intact.
